Dr. Irving Langmuir's prolific research career at General Electric Co. yielded discoveries of the gas-filled incandescent light bulb, atomic hydrogen welding, the octet theory of atomic structure, surface films, smoke screen generation, cloud seeding and weather control.

Physicist Max Born described Langmuir as
"a wonderful human being .... a remarkable mixture of
the deepest thoughtfulness and the wildest energy"

Langmuir also enjoyed skiing, hiking, and advancing environmental causes in the Adirondack Mountains and on Lake George. His life exemplified a love of outdoors, science, and serendipity.

Langmuir's World has appeared in more than a dozen film festivals, has won 4 awards, and has been broadcast on PBS affiliate WMHT. The video was produced and edited by Roger R. Summerhayes, who is Langmuir's grandson and a chemistry and physics teacher.
